My Goals

Personal and Professional

Alarmel Valli once said, "Dance is like wine; it matures with every performance."

I believe, dance related or not, that goal setting is the foundation to both personal and professional development and growth. When you are able to set goals, you are able to set expectations. My goals are broad, but they are necessary for my growth as a dancer and a human being. My personal and professional goals include deciding what I want to achieve in life; figuring out what kind of dancer and teacher I want to be; motivating myself to act on these goals; and allowing myself to enjoy any success I may achieve in the future. I also hope to achieve a success level similar to my role-model, Cora Kozaris.

As a young woman in a world focused heavily on self-awareness, I find my goals are going to help me to further develop my career and my capabilities as a dancer and a teacher. I look forward to the process of finding out what dance style is best suited for me; what teaching method is most effective between myself and my students; and taking the time to congratulate myself. I believe that with each step I take I will grow closer to my goals, and will personally and professionally exceed my own expectations.

Goals don’t always have to be extraordinary!  Every time I set a short term goal, it is individualised to my needs and is always within reach. Since I haven't been an active dancer in the past year, my short term goals focus on my abilities to improve my skills and are personal to me. Some of these goals include the following:

  • Attend an advanced class at The Underground Dance Centre.

  • Use my plie more in my jumping exercises.

  • Be more confident in the classroom as a dancer.

  • Regain my splits!

When I think about my future as a dancer or as a dance teacher, I believe it is 100 per cent open to me. I only have a couple long-term goals at this point in my life and my career. I intend to complete the following within an 8 year time span:

  • Graduate with honours from the Sports and Recreation Management program at Lambton College.

  • Be accepted into the Commercial Dance program at George Brown College in Toronto, ON; graduating with honours.

  • Obtain a BATD certified Dance Teacher's certificate.

Short and Long Term
